I know this is not funny but I can't help..but wonder..Is it a Disorder to want to give the finger every time someone cuts me off in traffic..or want to yell at the people in front of me..for being awful drivers..
I have gotten into fights in the past..for the ignorance of others..and thier driving habits.
I don't believe I have road rage..but am just so frustrated with others..that should know to use their Blinker at least more than 10 feet before they make a turn...sorry if this sounds like a rant..Its a legit question I believe.

Jup, hon, it's called road rage. And I get it too. Maybe not to the extent of getting out of my car and bashing in windows, but I certainly yell and beat my steering wheel. I've never honked or given the finger though.
I call it road rage, and perhaps it is a disorder, given that road rage people often don't have anger issues any other time.
Can I ask why you don't consider it road rage? |

My friends and I toss around the term "road rage" a lot. "You develop road rage living in Richmond! Hahaha. Hey, fuck you, buddy! USE A TURN SIGNAL!" I think people make horrible drivers, and if only 1-out-of-50 people were to own and drive cars, there would still be 1-out-of-50 angry people behind the wheel.
So I have a few links. From the US government, an index of planners, guides, and information related to aggressive driving. From Australia, a conference paper on measuring road rage (pdf). It looks at how to define criminal behavior and classes aggressive driving into Road Violence, Road Hostility, and Selfish Driving.
Last, but not least, road rage has been linked to Intermittent Explosive Disorder. IED refers to patients who suffer from moments of "temporary insanity" and cannot control their impulses/outbursts. It is fairly rare and is usually diagnosed by exclusion.
Hope that helps! |
